Fougere Royale changed the world of fragrance forever when it was first released to an unsuspecting public in 1882, establishing the modern approach haute perfumery that we know today. Created by Houbigant owner and head perfumer Paul Parquet, Fougere Royal was the progenitor of the fougere, or ‘fern-like’, fragrance family. Opening with an opulent and invigorating blend of vibrant citrus accords, a complex and seductive floral heart of geranium, rose, and carnation reveals itself, lent warming spice from the inclusion of cinnamon. In the base, Fougere Royal emphasises the dextrous interplay between tonka bean and patchouli, drawn together with a sumptuous amber note. One of our all time favourite fragrances here at Roullier White.

Fragrance House

Jean-François Houbigant of Grasse founded Houbigant in Paris in 1775. Houbigant originally sold gloves and bridal bouquets. The original shop sign was a hand painted basket of flowers, this was later to become the inspiration for the company’s hugely successful 1912 release; Quelques Fleurs. Houbigant were also pioneers in the use of synthetics, leading them to create the world’s first Fougère fragrance with Fougère Royal. Both Quelques Fleurs and Fougère Royal are legendary fragrances, however this House does not rest on it's laurels and continues to produce, exciting and wondrously chic scents for the international sophisticate.
