Eight & Bob - Egypt (EdP)

Albert Fouquet was fascinated with the culture of ancient Egypt, and in 1935 was finally able to travel to the country that had beguiled him for so long. Inspired by the vast array of rare and unusual flowers he found in the garden of his childhood friend who had invited him, Fouquet channelled this creative spark into what would become a highly prized composition, Egypt. Calming lavender and peppery green basil open the scent, given green complexity from a note of moss and shot through with fresh lemon. A richly spiced and aromatic heart of cardamom and nutmeg lends Egypt its distinctive character, warmly enveloping the senses as the notes coalesce. In the base, rich amber and leather accords are met with delicate sandalwood and sweet, earthy patchouli to produce a truly stunning final effect in the dry down. Warming, complex, and utterly addictive, Egypt is an eau de toilette of distinctive character and inimitable style.

Fragrance House

One of the most iconic scents of the 20th Century, Eight & Bob was created by French aristocrat Albert Fouquet alongside his butler, Philippe, and quickly found favour within the ranks of Hollywood’s glitterati. A passionate lover of fragrance, the scents in the Eight & Bob collection were deeply personal to Fouquet, inspired by his profound affinity for certain places and people. Originally, Fouquet created what would come to be known as 'Eight & Bob' for himself and his close acquaintances, until by chance he happened to cross paths with a young John F. Kennedy, holidaying in the French Riviera. Bequeathing the future president a bottle of this hitherto secret concoction, the Kennedy boy was so taken with the scent that upon his return to America he wrote to Fouquet requesting a further eight bottles, “and if production allows, another one for Bob”. 

After the tragic death of Albert Fouquet in a car accident, his butler Philippe had to halt production of the fragrances thanks to the onset of the Second World War, but not before he sent a final shipment to America, with the fragrances carefully concealed inside hand cut books. The first fragrance was revived from Philippe’s original hand written notes, and presented in packaging that pays tribute to that famous final shipment. Since then the collection has gone from strength to strength compounding a reputation for elegant, sophisticated, international glamour !
