These bags are woven in Mexico and based on the ancient basket-weaving techniques that pre-date the Spanish. The traditional baskets were made from plant material, however the principal here is to place no further stress on the local ecosystem and replace the vegetal braids with recycled plastic. This 'circular economics' means that waste that already exists in the world is repurposed into something that is useful and beautiful.

The baskets are woven my inmates, who are part of a reintegration programme, in specialised workshops. This means that the weavers can support their families from prison and the skills and economic stability then reduces recidivism! This is a similar concept to the Prison Boards programme that we have supported for many years.

The baskets are gorgeous - bright, super-hip and durable, with designs and colour combinations guaranteed to raise a smile!
