In our exhaustive search for innovative upcycling, we happened upon a small brand that is re-using bags initially created to store fish food and cement!
The designs on these bags are gorgeous and the fabric strong and durable so they are far too good to be discarded - and they are not!
A team of wonderful human beings have put together a truly heart-warming business and created gorgeous things to boot! We have two designs from the collection - a backpack and a toiletry/washbag - and these are made in Cambodia by men and women in deprived areas ( many with physical disabilities from the landmines of the Khmer Rouge), and they sign their names to each piece that they make! This company supports its sewers so they are part of one big family and also re-invests some of the profits into a rural school and buy books and pens etc for the 80 schoolchildren - and gives them new schoolbags of course!
The product is fun and bright with a pop-art feel, and the manufacturing process combines planet friendly with ethical values - and you simply can't beat that. A lovely story for Christmas I thought, as when we use each piece, we remember the person who made it.
