Root, Stem, Leaf, Flower: How to Cook with Vegetables and Other Plants by Gill Meller
The cooking, however, was a triumph as I bought Gill Meller's new vegetarian tome ' Root, Leaf, Stem, Flower' which is absolutely gorgeous. I take 'House & Garden' on subscription, one of my few print indulgences( the other two are 'Sight & Sound' and 'French Property News', make of that what you will!) and they published four recipes from the book which I tried and loved. The complete work in not only beautifully photographed and printed on lovely, thick paper but the mix of flavours and textures has really inspired me. I must say that Lockdown has increased my culinary skills and confidence and so I stick to the recipe on the first outing and then adapt slightly to our tastes thereafter. I have also adopted the GD's habit of annotating the cookbook with new ideas and how to avoid problems during the cooking process, which is really helpful when I return to each recipe and will, one day, hopefully assist someone else. This book is outstanding and has enough simplicity for weekdays and showstoppers for the w/e's to keep us happy for months!
