Habanita from the house of Molinard is one of the most legendary fragrances from the 1920s, originally produced to fragrance cigarettes. A woman smoking was frowned upon at the time, and so the rebellious youth movement known as La Garonne took up using Habanita in defiance of perceived decency. The fragrance immediately became popular as a perfume and gained a reputation as a fragrance of unrivalled warmth and expressive sexuality. Today, Habanita is still presented in the bottle designed by René Lalique and has a loyal, cult following as one of the finest leather tobacco fragrances ever produced. Habanita was recreated in 2012 in a formulation closer to the original fragrance of the 1920s. The sweetness of the floral notes has been reduced to give greater emphasis to the beautiful middle of wood, vanilla and leather.
