Our 'Crustaceous Period' has been some considerable time in the making, as I fell for the work of a British artist, Tom, back in the Spring and asked him to produce a series for us. These hand-finished, white, glazed earthenware pieces, each signed and numbered by the artist, are plates with a curve, so they can also be used as shallow serving bowls!
Large( at 37cm diameter), they can be used to serve shellfish, fish or what you will, but their curvaceousness will allow for pasta and salads too.
They are stunningly beautiful, for while the artwork is intricate, the fact that the image is in black and white lend the pieces a very contemporary, fresh look. When not in use, I shall place mine on a display stand, or hang it on the wall, I haven't quite decided.
Obviously these 'Plowls' do not all feature crustacea - well actually we will be getting 'prawns' next week to add to 'Hercules the Crab', so there is the link, but I just like saying "crustaceous"! This is oceanic series and I would really like to own the complete set!
