A new, ecological brand from Australia also landed this week and I have selected a small collection of pieces made from mango wood. This caramel-coloured hardwood is very attractive and has the added environmental credentials of growing quickly, not needing excessive drying or processing after harvest and having saved the teak tree as its wood is similarly strong and dense with a high lustre but the mango grows abundantly and is therefore not endangered!
A huge paddle board is great for entertaining on a grand scale and I use for cheese and crackers, tapas and crudites etc. This can be hung on the wall so that it doesn't take up counter or cupboard space. A large serving platter makes a great fruit bowl during the week and then can be loaded with breads and rolls or other goodies for a dinner party and so it will earn its keep. Finally, a large(30cm) serving bowl is the perfect foil for lush green salads, pulses, nuts, nibbles, rice and noodles or for bread, fruit etc. As I am sure that you know, wood needs only a wipe and light rinse and is not for the dishwasher!
