'Phloem', a reference to the vascular system of plants, is no less beguiling. It has the sucrose-sweetness of passion fruit that is masterfully balanced with the uplifting bite of rhubarb, the damp cellar of ambrette (the oil from the seed of the hibiscus flower), the soft coconut of gorse and a warm woody note that I can't quite put my finger on. There is something louche and carnal about this fragrance and it sticks to skin with a sensual ferocity!
Impression: Passion Fruit, Rhubarb, Mulberry, Nasturtium, Honeysuckle, Blaeberry, Camellia, Oysterplant
Fade: Meadowsweet, Gorse, Ambrette, Sesame, Amyris, Tonka Bean Absolute
Mr Mccall belongs to this school of thought. He is, by fragrance standards, an enfant terrible and his work for Jorum Studio is wildly unfettered, conjuring a plethora of naturalistic landscapes, both epic and distilled - he is, for me, an olfactory Turner with a twist!
