In November I ordered some very large Champagne coupes for the cottage. They are made in France and are absolutely gorgeous. I chose them because they are large - both in terms of the bowl and the height (17.5cm!), so make a striking impression. Also, because the GD likes bubbles and I personally prefer a coupe to a flute (it's a nose thing)!
The bowl sits atop four, solid, graduated, glass balls which make up the stem, so they are not only towering and imperial, but lovely and heavy in the hand. The saucer holds approximately double the amount of a standard glass; as you may know, the original Champagne coupe was said to have been modelled on the bosom of the Empress Marie Antoinette (untrue rather sadly) but these are a little more Mae West! Coupes are extremely serviceable as they also work for cocktails/mocktails and wine. You could even use them for sparkling water if you are very grand!
