Mrs White's Simple Plum Sauce

Come late August / early September many of us will be running of off things to do with the plethora of plums from our garden.

Our Granny White had a great, and very simple, recipe for plum sauce which she would serve with pork or lamb. It is also great as an alternative to Cranberry sauce at Christmas with the turkey. When using Mrs White's Simple Plum Sauce with meat we really like a tart, sharp flavour but you can add more sugar if you prefer. It s also great with ice cream, in which case you would defiantly want to make it sweeter.

Take six to eight plums, stone and chop into small pieces. Place in a pan and over a gentle heat and cover with boiling water. Allow the fruit to soften then stir in two dessert spoons of sugar, allow the sugar to fully dissolve and reduce the sauce until you have the consistency you like.

Mrs White's Simple Plum Sauce will keep for several days in the fridge, but we always make more than we need, allo it to cool and freeze it in handy sized bags.
